Traditionally, coaching has concentrated on improving sporting achievement or work performance. In recent years, this approach to skills development has merged with a growing concern for holistic personal development. Consequently, we have seen the growth of life coaching. The tools, techniques, models and methods of lifecoaching can now be used to help you improve multiple aspects of your life. Coaching emphasises the positive possibilities of your life. If you have no significant psychological blocks then lifecoaching can help you evolve your life to the next level. Coaching is appropriate when you are emotionally stable and ready to take the actions necessary to change your life for the better. A coach will help you accelerate the consideration, planning, and undertaking of such changes. For a fuller introduction to coaching why not click on the following icon to download the Wise Caterpillar PowerPoint introduction to coaching.

Lifecoaching is much more action-oriented than many traditional approaches to self development. Coaching is concerned with facilitating distinct results in the client's life. It asks that you both learn from where you are and do whatever is necessary to move toward your greatest fulfilment. Based on the following Coaching Principles*, it is primarily concerned with your present and future - not your past. As long as you have a basic commitment to achieving a great life, coaching will work for you. Sure, it requires you to take action and face the obstacles you've avoided till now - but you can do that, can't you? Sure you can! With a little help from a lifecoach you'll wonder whatever held you back! Can't I lifecoach myself?Although it is possible to go through lifecoaching on your own, it's a lot easier (and quicker) to achieve your goals with a lifecoach. As many of us know, willpower can let you down when you most need it - whereas a lifecoach will be there for you when the going gets tough. A lifecoach is someone who helps you get clear about the quality and direction of your life. By asking questions of you, agreeing upon tasks with you and enabling your commitment, your lifecoach will assist you toward the perfect life for you. A lifecoach is your shortcut to success. Using all the knowledge, resources and strategies at their disposal they will help you achieve the life you desire. Are you ready to have your own life consultant, personal trainer, ally and sounding board? Ask yourself a few questions to establish that you're Ready to Hire a Lifecoach? What do I need to consider when selecting a lifecoach? You need to consider both the personal attributes and the professional qualities you require in your lifecoach. It is very important that you choose someone whom you feel will relate well to your situation. Remember that, as life coaching can include considerable personal reflection, it is important you choose a coach you feel able to be open with. Additionally, you may wish to ask your coach about their level of training and how they keep their skills updated. Of course, it is also important to establish to which codes of ethics and professional bodies your coach subscribes. Such information can, in effect, signal the coach's commitment to providing a quality service. There are considerable differences in approach and expertise within lifecoaching. As well as general lifecoaching, some coaches offer specialised coaching. This is appropriate for you if you wish to focus on a specific aspect of your life. For instance, some lifecoaches work primarily with people experiencing relationship challenges whilst others work more with people wishing to turn their career around. Equally, some lifecoaches utilise very specific professional techniques whilst others are informed by a broader range of human development perspectives. Enquiring about the coach's usual approach to people in your situation can help you develop an idea of how they can help you and how well you may work together. What will it cost and how long will it take?A free initial coaching session is common among lifecoaches. This session is usually an opportunity for you to ask questions and to clarify how lifecoaching might benefit you. It may also be used to offer you a basic experience of coaching. It is a chance for you to decide if you can develop a good relationship with a particular lifecoach. To request a free initial coaching session with Elizabeth e-mail . Like any other professional, your lifecoach is likely to make an initial agreement with you about the amount you pay for each session, how you pay for each session and what will happen if you cancel a session. Lifecoaches charge for their work at different rates and their fees can vary considerably. If you are on a low income you are advised to enquire as to whether a sliding scale of charges is available. Lifecoaching takes place during regular sessions. It typically takes place on the telephone. However, it is also possible, with some coaches, to access coaching via e-mail, instant messenger, fax or in person. Each coaching session will usually last for 30 or 45 minutes. Some coaches offer sessions that last an hour or longer. You are often expected to commit to initial lifecoaching for at least three months. What happens during lifecoaching?Lifecoaching is a conversation between two people both committed to the success of the client. In a lifecoaching session you share your thoughts, hopes, dreams and desires with your coach. You reveal what you want to when you want to, knowing that your coach is there to help you achieve your heart's desire. As you open up your coach will ask you questions and enable you to reflect on what you have said. With her support you gain greater insight into the gap between where you are and where you want to be. With her encouragement you gain the courage and skills to close that gap. A lifecoaching session may include the undertaking of reflective exercises, an exploration of potential avenues for growth, and the sharing of information and success strategies. It usually starts with a review of progress to date and ends with agreements about post-session action. However, as it is a client directed process the actual pattern and content of each session is determined by you. If you become unhappy with your lifecoach it is very important that you tell them your concerns. Lifecoaches understand that feelings of uncertainty and anxiety may sometimes arise for their clients. A professional coach will appreciate your honesty about such feelings and will do all they can to address your concerns. Of course, if you wish to, you are also entitled to complain to the organisation/s to which the lifecoach belongs.
