Why "Wise Caterpillar"?
The personal bit

My experience, qualifications, and affiliations

Hi, thanks for dropping in here. Guess you want to know a bit more about me? Well, here goes...

  • Coaching skills and creativity
  • Equality and diversity issues
  • Recruitment, selection and appraisal
  • Counselling, grief and change management processes
  • Management and leadership development
  • Team working, conflict reduction and time management
  • Sales, communication, assertiveness and interpersonal issues
  • Health and safety
  • Childcare, supporting vulnerable adults and working with elders

My educational background includes:

  • Certification as a NLP Practitioner
  • NLP Coach Diploma
  • Certificate in Life Coaching
  • MSc in Training and Human Resource Management
  • Diploma in Performance Coaching
  • Diploma in Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy
  • Certificate in Disability, Arts, Training and Employment

I am accredited by the National Regulatory Register for Hypnotherapy. I am a member of the UK National Council of Psychotherapy (the NCP Code of Ethics) and a Registered Hypnotherapist with the UK General Hypnotherapy Council (GHR Code of Ethics). I also belong to the International Association of Coaches and the coaching community Coachville.

My approach to human development is creative, reflective and realistic. I like to help people get honest about the possibilities and probabilities of life. My mission is to optimise the growth of others by providing inspiring, egalitarian and holistic human development opportunities.

I seek to do this by being both patient and eager to enable your best action, both supportive and provocative in inspiring your growth, both thoughtful and practical in facilitating the changes you seek. I have come to love working with people who want to be more, rather than just have more. My ideal client loves to pursue inquiry, to expand their thinking, to take purposeful actions.

Is that you? If it is, tell me how I can help you. Contact me now by phone on 0044 (0)115 9566159 or drop me a line via the Wise Caterpillar Feedback Form to arrange an appointment. I'd love to hear from you...

My location

I receive life coaching and hypnotherapy clients at my home on Flintham Drive, Sherwood, Nottingham, NG5 3DS. View map here. Sherwood is easily accessed from all parts of Nottingham City - including Basford, Arnold, Bulwell, West Bridgford, Clifton, Daybrook, Carlton, Mapperley, Bestwood and Beeston. I also welcome clients from the cities, towns and villages of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and further afield.

Life coaching and hypnotherapy clients who travel by public transport are reminded that the area is well served by Nottingham City Buses (numbers 87,88,89 and 53). These buses stop on Edwards Lane. You are advised to a get off the bus at the "Five Ways" roundabout - Flintham Drive is off Kneeton Vale (one of the five roads leading off the roundabout).

Please note that all meetings with clients are by appointment only.

My central England base is also ideally situated for travelling to meet the needs of training clients across the UK and beyond. With easy access to Nottingham Rail Station, the M1 motorway and Nottingham East Midlands Airport, my colleagues and I will happily journey to deliver the training events you book with us.

Why "Wise Caterpillar"?

An animated yellow and orange butterfly hatches from a green chrysalis.
"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly."

Richard Bach

Ah yes, why did I select "Wise Caterpillar"? Well, I really like the idea behind the above quote from Richard Bach's "Illusions" ... embracing change, recognising it as the gift of a new life, facing the future fearlessly ... skills I seem to have spent my whole life honing (not altogether successfully!)

However, as I don't feel I have made it to butterfly status yet (whenever I have felt I may be a butterfly you can bet that is when I am most definitely stuck in ignorant caterpillar mode!) I seek to be, at best, a wise caterpillar. It's a bit of challenge sometimes!.

And yes, I was hoping the name might attract other caterpillars seeking to be as wise as possible (given the limitations of being only a metaphorical caterpillar and not an actual small, wriggly creature that gets to spend it's days being exactly what it is, no more, no less ... ). Anyhow ... perhaps you're one of them? If you might be then feel free to get in touch. Introduce yourself, share your wisdom. I'd love to hear from you.

The personal bit

Second generation Irish, born on the south coast of England, I'm now based in Nottingham in the UK. I live in a small, comfortable house with too many books (is there such a thing?!) and a wildlife friendly garden.

What else? Well ...

  • I am passionately committed to self growth. Active learning has been a cornerstone of my life for as long as I remember.
  • I am mother to a young, creative, extraordinary person who every day inspires me to live with greater and greater integrity.
  • I am impressed by people with big hearts, inspired by people who manage to be both clever and kind, and awed by the power of oceans.
  • I consider myself blessed by the work I do. I know my life makes a difference.
  • I recycle everything I can. I use public transport as much as possible. I'm also vegetarian. However, I only wear flowers in my hair when they co-ordinate with my suit :-)
  • I have been through many significant challenges in my personal and professional life... and yes, I am wiser for it all.
  • Having experienced a slight hearing impairment since childhood, I have been involved in the UK disability movement for many years. I am a former founding member/ chairperson of a local disability charity.
  • For relaxation I write, read (lots of different stuff), meditate and am often to be found gardening or doing DIY.
  • My favourite quote is "It is never too late to be what you might have been" by George Eliot. It helps remind me that, even as my body ages, the potential for new beginnings remains bright, shiny and ever-present.
